Bandroom
Our own app for brass bands. Players say whether they can make each rehearsal and concert, and the band sees who’ll be sitting where. When there’s a gap, it asks for a dep.

A band’s week, before and after
| Before | With Bandroom |
|---|---|
| “Who’s coming on Saturday?” goes into the group chat, and the answers get lost under everything else. | Each player answers Yes, Maybe or No, and the seat chart fills in as they do. |
| The secretary keeps the register on paper, or in a spreadsheet at home. | The register is taken in the app on the night. |
| Finding a dep means ringing round, often on the day. | The band asks its whole dep list at once, and on Band Plus, players nearby who’ve said they’ll dep. |
| Tickets are sold on the door, or through an agent that takes a cut. | Tickets are sold on the band’s own page and paid straight to the band. |
| A change of venue goes out by text, by email and on Facebook. | Notices and band chat reach the players’ phones, with a chat for each section. |
The seat chart
A brass band sits in a horseshoe round the conductor, and every seat has its own part.
So Bandroom draws the band as it will sit, with each seat coloured by who’s coming. The conductor can see the gaps a week before the concert, and ask for a dep from the empty seat.

How we went about it
An app in the store or a website?
One build that works as both.
Bandroom runs in any browser and behaves like an app on a phone: it opens with no signal, sends notifications and players can answer straight from the notification. The Android app is made from the same code, so a fix reaches every phone at once.
Who pays for it?
The bands.
A band pays a monthly plan. Players and the public use it free, so every player can join, and the list of people willing to dep keeps growing whether or not their own band pays.
Children in the band too?
Yes, with care built in.
Under-18s are seen only by their own bands, are never asked to dep and have no private messages. Under-13s need a parent or carer to agree by email first, and can read the band chat without posting in it.
Whose name goes on it?
Its own.
Bandroom has its own name, look and address, so bands meet a banding app first. Our name is in its footer, and we run it from our own staff area, with its money, reports and posts beside Tektura’s.
Its own look
A semibreve in an arch, rounded at the top and square at the foot like a band room door. People are drawn round, and everything else is an arch.

What we’ll measure
- Bands using it each weekDuring the pilot
- Rehearsals and concerts answered within a dayDuring the pilot
- Seats filled by deps found in BandroomDuring the pilot
Once the pilot is under way, the real numbers go here.
If your organisation needs an app of its own, we’ll build it and look after it.
Bandroom is ours: Tektura built it and runs it. The GUS Band, where Daniel plays cornet, will be the first to try it. Every band and person in the pictures is fictional. Run a band yourself? Bandroom is at bandroom.co.uk.
